And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. - ROMANS 5:3-5

Sometimes it takes the breaking of the heart to lead to the healing of the heart. A tree is cut down, stripped of its bark and sawn into pieces, then forms the elegant structure of a sailing ship. Granite is blasted, pounded and cut, then becomes the base of a mighty bridge. A field is slashed and turned over, reborn as the cradle of nourishing grain. Had trees, stone and sod the ability to speak, they would report that tribulation is the instrument of transformation.

When the Holy Spirit orchestrated ROMANS 5 in his heart, Paul could remember the pride of his lineage, his academic background and his titles. (PHILIPPIANS 3:4-7) When Jesus appeared to him on Damascus Road, Saul of Tarsus lay in the dust, a blinded, broken man. But the man with a broken heart arose with a healed heart. The heartbreak you experience can be God’s means of deeper healing if you will receive it that way.
