Many people mistakenly think that the devil is omniscient, or all-knowing like God, but he’s not. Therefore, to know how to tempt us, the devil prowls around, observing our behavior and actions so he can choose just the right bait to lure us into his trap. His favorite bait to use against us is the promise to fulfill the desires of our flesh. That is why taking time every day to draw near to God and spend time in His Word and in prayer is so essential.

In His model prayer, Jesus instructs us to ask the Father in Heaven to deliver us from the evil one and the temptation, or bait, he uses to lure us away from God’s best for our lives. So let’s take Peter’s advice today and stay alert, recognize and resist the bait, and remain steadfast in the faith.
