"Oh give thanks to the Lord, call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples."
Psalms 105:1

History tells us that when the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock in 1620, they faced harsh conditions. When they became desperate for food, Governor William Bradford rationed five grains of corn a day to each person. When things got better, Bradford did not want the people to forget what they had gone through, so at every Thanksgiving meal he had five grains of corn placed at each plate.

Gratitude is the great reminder of God’s goodness. One of the traditions of my family’s Thanksgiving meals has been to place five grains of corn, or pieces of candy corn for the children, at each plate. Everyone then names something for which they are grateful for each grain of corn. What would your “5-Grains of Gratitude” be? Take a moment to thank God for each one of them today. After all, it doesn’t have to be Thanksgiving to be grateful.
