"And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart."Genesis 6:6
“It was very good.” These are the words used in Genesis 1:31 to describe God’s completed creation. But by the time we reach our verse in Genesis 6, people had messed up so much that God was sorry He had made them. The Hebrew root word for “sorry” is “to sigh.” But God’s grieving heart sigh was not one of judgment but one of grace and hope. He would begin again with humanity. We know the full story. We know that in Christ we are made brand new, and that God, in His faithfulness, gives us a new beginning every morning. So if you feel God sighing over you, don’t assume it’s His wrath. If you are His child, it is the signal He’s going to wipe the slate clean and give you the opportunity to begin again.
