Switching Teams

When Andrew Whitworth took the field for the Los Angeles Rams in the Super Bowl, he was playing against his old team, the Cincinnati Bengals. Do you think for one second Woodworth considered going back to his old team to play the game? No way! When we receive Christ, we’re on a new team. We are going in a new direction – walking in newness of life. We’d have to be out of our head to go back to our “old team” of a meaningless and empty lifestyle. If we live according to the flesh we will die, but if by the Spirit we put to death the deeds of the flesh, we will live. How do we do that? By daily dying to self, taking up our cross and following Christ. Why do we do it? Because like Andrew Woodworth, we are on a brand new team!
