A willing mind

February 05, 2018
“As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a whole heart and a willing mind; for the Lord searches all hearts and understands every intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will let you find Him; but if you forsake Him, He will reject you forever.” - 1 CHRONICLES 28:9, “Keep watching and praying that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” - MATTHEW 26:41

All Billy’s mom asked of her college-bound son was that he attend church.  Billy spent a weekend at a college pal’s ranch. Sunday morning his buddy invited Billy on a daylong fishing trip. As they rode out on horseback, Billy heard a church bell growing fainter with distance. Suddenly, Billy turned to his friend. “Got to go back and go to church,” he said. “Wait,” answered Billy’s pal, “we can all go next Sunday.” “Nope,” Billy replied, “I’ve got to go back now, while I can still hear the bell!”

It wasn’t easy for Billy to turn his horse and gallop away from his friends and the lake. But he had a willing heart, and that overcame the tug to get away from the bell. People with willing hearts and minds can be trusted to answer the call and never want to get beyond its range.
