Accomplices

September 11, 2018
I call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies. The cords of death encompassed me, and the torrents of ungodliness terrified me. - PSALM 18:3-4

In his assault on the heart, the devil has many accomplices, “torrents of ungodliness.” Don’t blame the devil and his demons when you fail to care for your physical and spiritual heart. You’re not a victim, but responsible. You make the decision to be taken in by his scams or not. But the devil and his accomplices are at the root of the theft of health and life.

One accomplice is lust, the longing to please the flesh rather than God. James says lust births sin and sin brings death. (JAMES 1:14-15) Another accomplice to rob the heart’s health and life is fallen culture, the world system.

There are three angles this ally of the devil hits you with: the lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes and the pride of life. All this, writes John, is “in the world.” If we open the door of our hearts to the accomplices of the con artist, they will strip the heart of all its God-given riches.

TODAY’S FOCUS
Call on the Lord to save you from the enemy and his “torrents of ungodliness.”
