Anyone can know a horse

October 21, 2018
But Jesus, on His part, was not entrusting Himself to them, for He knew all men, and because He did not need anyone to bear witness concerning man for He Himself knew what was in man. - JOHN 2:24-25

“I know that horse, and I wouldn’t advise you to ride him” says the wrangler at the dude ranch. The urban cowboy pretending to be Wyatt Earp better listen. The wrangler is saying he’s handled and ridden the horse and knows its character and tendencies.” But then anyone can know a horse. The real challenge is understanding a complex human heart.

Jesus knew what was “in” man. He didn’t need any help understanding people. Others knew about humanity, could unravel the nuances of a wink and the secrets of a smile. But without the external codes, humans are ignorant of what’s really going on.

Jesus zeroes in on the heart. That explains some of His strange behavior. Like forgiving a prostitute, healing a Roman centurion's servant, dining with a tax collector and choosing beach bums for His disciples. He knew what was in a man or woman and His responses were based on what He saw in their hearts.

TODAY’S FOCUS
