Armistice is not peace

November 11, 2018
Rescue me, O LORD, from evil men; preserve me from violent men who devise evil things in their hearts; they continually stir up wars. - PSALM 140:1-2

Sometimes what we call “peace” is nothing more than an armed truce. On November 11, 1918, World War One halted through an armistice agreement.  But there was no peace and 21 years later the same parties were at war again.

On July 27, 1953, the United Nations forces signed an armistice agreement with the North Koreans but a half century later, the agreement is fragile. Papers signed; no peace.

Shalom means much more than a mere truce, but the obliteration of the evil that would steal the peace. In a world where violent men cook up evil schemes in their hearts and fuel war constantly, we need shalom, peace, not a mere armistice.

The means of personal peace is not a cessation of hostilities with the devil, but a crushing defeat that makes it impossible for him to wage war against our souls. Jesus Christ accomplished that at the cross. That’s why our salvation is true peace and not a mere armistice.

TODAY’S FOCUS
Never settle for an armistice with the powers of darkness when God’s will for you is total peace.
