Believing historical fact

October 01, 2018
… if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved… - ROMANS 10:9

Some people believe in Jesus’ resurrection like a literature professor believes in Zeus sitting atop Mount Olympus: It’s a wonderful myth from which we draw important lessons.

When Scripture tells us to believe in our hearts that God raised Jesus from the dead, it is challenging us to believe in a historical fact. This is not enchanting mysticism, but actuality, the scrape of a huge rock moving away from a tomb door, the rustling of a burial cloth falling off, the patter of feet running and gasping voices.

Biblical heart-belief is different from the pantheism that says the unseen “All” is God, or the shaved-head Krishna cultist who says it’s irrelevant if Krishna truly existed, that what counts is the legend. Christ’s resurrection is not something real for one heart, and unreal for another. It is objective truth for every heart, but transforming truth only for the heart that believes it as accomplished history.

TODAY’S FOCUS
Confess your heart-belief that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and Savior of all who trust Him that He physically died and rose again and ascended to the Father.
