De-feathering the peacock heart

And behold, one came to Him and said, "Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may obtain eternal life?"…Jesus said to him, “If you wish to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor”… - MATTHEW 19:16, 21
The peacock heart fears de-feathering and would rather die than lose its glorious plumage. The peacock asks Jesus for salvation. “Keep the Law,” Jesus says. “Been there, done that,” replies the plumed one. The “imaginations” of the proud peacock heart “run riot.” (PSALM 73:7 NASB) Peacocks think they can do anything. But Jesus keeps raising the bar, telling the peacock to pluck out his glory and give it to featherless birds. However, the peacock will do anything but de-feather himself. Peacock hearts are so blinded by their own thick splendor they don’t get it.
Jesus sought to show the young man his good works could save him no more than his money could. The peacock heart, able to buy whatever it wants, has a hard time understanding grace, so it’s easier for a camel to squeeze through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of God. (MATTHEW 19:24)
Ironically, had the peacock allowed himself to be de-feathered, he would have received a glory far lovelier and more enduring than the plumage of his pride.
