Don’t be a heart melter

March 21, 2018
…Our brethren have made our hearts melt, saying, "The people are bigger and taller than we; the cities are large and fortified to heaven. And besides, we saw the sons of the Anakim there."' "Then I said to you, 'Do not be shocked, nor fear them.’ The LORD your God who goes before you will Himself fight on your behalf’” -DEUTERONOMY 1:28-30
A “heart melter” is a person who discourages others, who liquefies their inner strength, like the 10 shaky spies who checked out the Promised Land. Every group has its heart melters. In strategic planning for an organization, leaders sometimes do an analysis by which they survey the institutions strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats (SWOT).  Heart melters focus on the threats rather than the opportunities.

A “heart solidifier,” as Moses, Joshua and Caleb were to the Hebrews, does not ignore reality. He or she sees the threats. But the solidifiers encourage the inner strength of the team or group by getting everyone to see the opportunities. Moses’ own heart was solid and stable with his faith in God. Heart melters transmit their own shakiness to team members, but heart solidifiers share their faith and strength.

TODAY’S FOCUS
Ask God to solidify, stabilize and strengthen your own heart, and then use you to solidify the hearts of others.
