Fire in the hole

February 11, 2020
"Then I said, “I will not make mention of Him, nor speak anymore in His name.” But His word was in my heart like a burning fire shut up in my bones; I was weary of holding it back, and I could not." - JEREMIAH 20:9

Whenever an explosive blast is about to occur in mining, a warning cry sounds: “Fire in the hole!” I was 18 years old when I preached my first sermon, and even now I remember my opening line. I told the congregation that Jesus’ words contained “enough dynamite to change the course of the entire world.” And I still believe that is true these many years and thousands of sermons later.

If we are faithful in spending time in God’s Word, and hiding it in our hearts, then like Jeremiah, we will not be able to hold it in! But instead of “fire in the hole” we could shout “fire in the heart” as the truth of God’s Word explodes in us and through us. Who needs to hear “fire in the heart” from you today?
