Forget the all-night pizza

October 18, 2018
When I was a child, I used to speak as a child, think as a child, reason as a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish things. - 1 CORINTHIANS 13:11

Lock-ins are big fun for our youth groups. Hundreds of kids gather to spend all night at the church, playing games, munching zesty treats, and greeting the sunrise. But we don’t do lock-ins for our mature adults. They prefer seeing the spring flowers and craft fairs. Staying up all night eating pizza is no appeal.

There’s a big difference between the adolescent and adult spiritual heart, too. This has little to do with chronological age. I know teenagers who’ve followed Christ a short time more mature than adults claiming to be Christians for 40 years! Adolescent describes a person half adult and half child.

Jesus said to enter the Kingdom we must be childlike. There’s a big difference between being childlike and childish. The adolescent spiritual heart will sometimes behave maturely, then the “child” half will kick in, prompting the person to act like a brat. Growth is a process. Nurture your spiritual heart and you will see spiritual adolescence fade away.

TODAY’S FOCUS
Being alive results in growth, so allow Christ’s spiritual energy to thrive in your heart, and you will mature in Him.
