Fresh oil
"And you shall charge the sons of Israel that they bring you clear oil of beaten olives for the light, to make a lamp burn continually.” - EXODUS 27:20
If the heart is to radiate Christ continually it must be infused with fresh oil daily. In Scripture, oil is the figure to represent God’s Spirit and His empowerment of a person, symbolized in anointing or pouring oil on an individual being set apart for a special work—like a king, prophet or priest. Christ is “The Anointed One” because He holds all three offices.
The oil that fuels the light must be clear or the flame will be smoky. Its illumination will be clouded as quickly as it comes forth. That means the sources from which we draw heart-strength must be unmixed. Christ’s followers don’t seek power from a combination of the Holy Spirit and lucky charms.
The oil must be freshened daily. The Holy Spirit never runs dry, but our hearts do. Every day we must designate time for spiritual refreshing. Through daily Bible study, worship, prayer and service the flame in our heart-lamps leaps with new vitality. Don’t let your oil run low!
