Get off the ‘anxiety frequency’!

Anxiety is listening to the static in your heart. The cure for the anxious heart is getting its dial set precisely on God’s frequency. Stress generates static, resulting when we face threats and situations we think we can’t handle. The heart-dial set on God floods the psyche with the awareness that God is in charge, and what we can’t handle, He can.

Physically, anxiety causes high blood pressure, crazy fluctuations in the heartbeat and cardiac arrest. Anxiety takes aim at the spiritual heart, too, causing it to feel rising pressures of doubt, inconsistency in confession and belief, and even a shut-down of faith.

To squelch the static, first, “take courage.” That means grabbing hold of God’s promises and refusing to turn loose. Second, “fear not.” Don’t let fear drown out faith. Finally, recognize that God will fight for you, and that even if you are in the middle of tribulation, He will rescue you. Get the heart on that frequency and the static of anxiety fades.
