Heart Creep

May 29, 2018
“Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, "Indeed, has God said, 'You shall not eat from any tree of the garden'?" - GENESIS 3:1

Cosmic collapse begins with a simple question.

The destruction of a heart starts with a small matter. Physically, cholesterol builds up slowly, a creeping adversary. Spiritually, the little sins coalesce into a heart-stopper.

“Jack” visited our church awhile  back from another state. He had the world tied in a knot and hoisted over his shoulder. Beautiful wife, handsome kids, promising career. Jack the dynamo, apparently a sterling Christian. No one knew that years earlier, Jack would place an occasional bet on a ball game. He would win and lose some, but he stayed on the winning edge, so “occasional” became “constant.” Finally, Jack got in so deep he was borrowing money to pay his gambling debts. One day Jack awoke to the reality of the deceit that had crept into his heart. He realized he had become insensitive to twisting the truth. “I could lie, and it didn’t bother me at all,” he said later.

What creeps up on your heart today becomes its essence tomorrow. Stop the creep before it becomes a crushing mountain of death.

TODAY’S HEART FOCUS
Ask the Holy Spirit to expose the things creeping slowly into your heart that could destroy you. Renounce them and turn away from them by receiving Christ’s liberating truth.
