Hearts on display

April 02, 2018
Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much. – JAMES 5:16

Some years ago, in a certain city, the local heart association invited top leadership to a presentation by cardiologists. The physicians displayed four human hearts floating in jars of formaldehyde. The one from a middle-aged person killed instantly in an accident was normal size. The next came from an executive who died of a heart attack during a high-powered bargaining session with a client. It was twice normal size. Third was the heart of coronary victim who was cheating on his wife. It too was enlarged. Displayed finally was the heart of a person who had suffered a heart attack, survived, and changed his lifestyle. The heart was the appropriate size, though it had once been stricken.

You may have suffered a “spiritual heart attack” in the past through a moral failing or some other sin. Repentance, which begins with acknowledgment and confession of sin, is a change in lifestyle that heals your spiritual heart. And repentance is good for your physical heart, too!

Today’s Focus
Ask God to show you sins of the past that struck your spiritual heart.  Acknowledge and confess the sins and declare to God you are turning from them.
