How not to hate yourself

September 22, 2018
But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart." – 1 SAMUEL 16:7

You may be anxious about the way you look, but God is more concerned with who you are. In 1997, England’s glamorous Princess Diana died in a Paris car crash. On the day of her funeral, Mother Teresa died in Calcutta, age 87. Mother Teresa had received God’s call to devote her life to Him at the same age Diana was when she died, 36.

Which of these two clay vessels was more elegant in appearance? Diana, no doubt. Tall, stately, immaculately formed features made her a visual splendor. Mother Teresa was short, bent and wrinkled. But that didn’t stop her from being one of history’s most “beautiful” women, spiritually. Keep God’s purpose at the center of your heart, and your preoccupation with your physical appearance will fade from view.
