How to beat the thief

September 12, 2018
Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. - JAMES 4:7

You likely can’t outgun an armed robber, but you can resist a scam artist. The devil comes to rob your heart of its life, and he does it through stealth. To stop the scam, first, get serious about the threat and be alert to what the enemy is about.

In youth we think we are invincible, and flirt with the destroyer’s schemes. But Peter says stay alert because the old lion never stops prowling, watching for any sign he could snatch your life. (1 PETER 5:8)

Second, dress for success in the battle for your heart. Put on God’s whole armor from head to toe “so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.” (EPHESIANS 6:11) God hasn’t left you defenseless. Dress for warfare! Finally, send the cheater packing. “Resist” means to “stand against” and “oppose.” If you are submitted to Christ, you have that authority. Say “Get lost!” to the thief who would rob your heart of its health and life.

TODAY’S FOCUS
Repent if you have a victim attitude. Ask God for the insight, courage and faith to take responsibility for resisting the devil’s assaults on your health.
