Looking inside the ‘oven’

April 17, 2018
And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, “Why are you thinking evil in your hearts?” – MATTHEW 9:4

Old fashioned ovens had hefty metal doors that protected from the log-fire burning within. Today’s ranges come with glass viewing panels. The cook can peer at biscuits browning inside, and knows exactly what’s happening in the baking process.

The heart is an oven, and Jesus is the expert Who can look inside and see exactly what’s going on. He healed a paralytic. Midst the joy, there was a scowling group. Their “ovens” were baking away trying to find all the reasons Jesus’ act of mercy broke the ritual law. But the Lord could look into their “oven,” and see what was going on in their hearts. We may feel that the door of our heart is shut tight, and that the things simmering inside are hidden from view. But there is One Who knows where the viewing panel is. He looks inside, and His expert eyes know if the bread baking there is poisonous or wholesome.

He is the one Who is able “to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12) - our very motives!

Today’s Focus
Ask God to look into your heart through His Holy Spirit and then to show you what He sees inside.
