Purposes of the Heart

April 09, 2018
Since I know, O my God, that Thou triest the heart and delightest in uprightness, I, in the integrity of my heart, have willingly offered all these things; so now with joy I have seen Thy people, who are present here, make their offerings willingly to Thee. O LORD, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, our fathers, preserve this forever in the intentions of the heart of Thy people and direct their heart to Thee;…- 1 CHRONICLES 29:17-18

What one thing is worthy of becoming the central purpose of the heart, the objective so great you are willing to give it your total energy and treasure? For David, it was the building of God’s Temple. The Apostle Paul said, “For me to live is Christ.” (Philippians 1:21)

“What’s your business?” you ask someone. “Insurance,” is the answer. The answer reveals the purpose of the heart. So we conclude, “He is in the insurance business.” So, ultimately, the highest purpose of the heart must be to be in Christ. This means being in Christ’s destiny, eternity in Heaven. In the present age being in Christ’s destiny means being in His will. This is the ultimate “business” of every follower of Jesus Christ. This is the “magnificent obsession” that must be preserved forever in your heart.

Today’s Focus
Ask the Holy Spirit to help you sort through all the purposes of your heart, to bring them together under the one great purpose of being in His will, and to preserve that passion in you forever.
