Question the heart

September 28, 2018
But if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or an ungifted man enters, he is convicted by all, he is called to account by all; the secrets of his heart are disclosed; and so he will fall on his face and worship God, declaring that God is certainly among you. - 1 CORINTHIANS 14:24-25

“Question Everything.” Sometimes people who slap that sticker on their bumper mean they will question everything but their own hearts. Years ago, I had a serious case of angina. The medical personnel not only took measures and readings, but questioned me. “How does it feel exactly?” “Where does it hurt?” “When did the pain start?”

In today’s Bible passage, Paul is concerned for the proper use of spiritual gifts. “Prophecy,” here the clear, piercing presentation of biblical truth, is the gift everyone should desire.
(1 CORINTHIANS 14:39) The reason is it will lay bare the secrets of people’s hearts and provoke them to ask questions about their spiritual well-being they’ve never before confronted.

If not discovered, the secret things going on in the physical heart, the unseen build-up of plaque, for example, can kill a person. The secrets of the spiritual heart can be devastating as well. Question everything … about your own heart!

TODAY’S FOCUS
Ask the Lord to sharpen your spiritual ears when you hear sermons or Bible teaching, that the truths might prompt questions that would expose your heart’s secrets.
