Reasons you have to be thankful

August 07, 2017
PHILIPPIANS 4:6 - Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

Did you know that the words “think” and “thank” come from the same root? They do. So when you and I think, we should immediately expel words of thanksgiving. Simply put, we are to be thankful people. Far too many of us have a hard time seeing what we have to be thankful for. We are like the little girl who was told by her mother to eat all her spinach, which she hated. She ate it, pushed around the rest of her food, and then asked to be excused from the table. Her mother told her, “You may, but not until you think of something you’re thankful for.” The little girl thought for a minute, then said, “I’m thankful, Mom, that the spinach has not made me sick yet. Now may I be excused?”

Not too many of us are detained at the table anymore, but I wish that all of us could be made to sit still and quiet until we came up with at least a dozen things for which we can be thankful. Could you do it? Would it take you long? To be a Christian steeped in negativism is to deny the goodness of the Lord God Almighty. I have seen Christians in other cultures thankful for conditions we would consider desperate. Do you have clothes to wear? Food to eat? Could you get medical care if you needed it? Are your sins forgiven? Are you a son or daughter of God and a joint heir with Jesus Christ? Think about it...and give thanks.
