Speaking From the Heart

March 05, 2018
"The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth what is good; and the evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth what is evil; for his mouth speaks from that which fills his heart.” -Luke 6:45
The woman loses it one day at work and blasts everyone in sight. The man comes home frustrated and angry, and lets loose a barrage of stabbing words at his family. Later, both the man and woman feel remorse. At different times and places, to different people, they say the same thing: “I’m sorry; that just wasn’t me.” The sad truth is, it was.

When you shake an apple tree, apples rain down. The real you comes out when you’re shaken. The fruit of your true heart thuds into view.

“That guy made me lose my temper!” The person who says that already had the temper inside. “That woman (man) made me lust!” Nope, the lust was there already. Apple trees don’t blame anyone for the presence of apples.

Today’s victim mentality encourages us to blame others for what comes out of us. Tragically, this blinds us from the opportunity to take responsibility for what’s in our hearts.
But if you evaluate what comes out when your “tree” is shaken, your heart can be healed!

TODAY’S FOCUS
Pray for the kind of heart that brings good fruit that blesses others rather than the heart that sickens others with rotten fruit.
