Stifled heart

October 10, 2018
But if I say, "I will not remember Him or speak anymore in His name," then in my heart it becomes like a burning fire shut up in my bones; and I am weary of holding it in, and I cannot endure it. - JEREMIAH 20:9

The pressure builds, thermometers rise, the boiler rumbles, the energy must be released or there will be a massive explosion. The human heart, transformed by Christ, cannot restrain the spiritual passion to tell others. Quench the Spirit and stifle the heart, which causes it to quake the building passion.

The most miserable people in the world aren’t the pagans and reprobates, but Christians trying to “hold it in.” At some point, you will weary of trying to hold it in, and keeping silent will be unendurable.

I preached my first sermon at 18 in Petal, Mississippi. The text was MATTHEW 5:41, in which Jesus said His disciples ought to be willing to go the second mile. I remember even now my first line of that first sermon. I told the people Jesus’ words contain “enough dynamite to change the course of the entire world.” All these decades later, I still believe it. You can’t hold it in or your heart will explode!
