Straying Hearts

April 30, 2018
Do not let your heart turn aside to her ways, do not stray into her paths.  -Proverbs 7:25
You’d have to be crazy or asleep at the wheel to let yourself stray into the path of an 18-wheeler. Think of it like this. You work in a hospital emergency room. Daily, you treat patients banged up from wrecks on a certain road. It’s the most dangerous highway in the region. It’s the truck route, where all the herds of mega-vehicles thunder along. When your shift is done, you steer your car toward home. There are five routes that will lead to your driveway. But you decide to take the road where all your patients that day got creamed by the freight trucks. Not a good decision.

The Proverb symbolizes sin by the seductress. But understand that the sin could be embodied in a male as well as a female. The Bible is clear about what happens when our hearts stray into the sin’s path: Her house is the way to Sheol (hell), descending to the chambers of death. (Proverbs 7:27)

Don’t go to sleep at the wheel of your heart!
