Tap dance

August 23, 2018
Even in laughter the heart may be in pain, and the end of joy may be grief. The backslider in heart will have his fill of his own ways, but a good man will be satisfied with his. - PROVERBS 14:13-14

Some people try to tap dance their way through life. A great big toothy smile, clicking heels and a jaunty cane conceal a heart full of pain. Some hide their pain with great big guffaws of laughter. Others laugh with a derisive smirk, daring the pain to defeat them. But either way, the laughter is a tap dance to conceal the somber dirge played out in the hurting heart.

Most often, suggests the Proverb, the heart suffers pain because of “backsliding.” This is the person who once knew God and His ways, but turned and traveled back into a lifestyle of unbelief. He gets all he wants, only to find its grief.

The person who stays faithful is “satisfied.” Rather than the tap dance that disguises the pain, the faithful man or woman waltzes from the joy that arises from the heart of peace and joy. Are you tap-dancing to hide your pain, or waltzing from the joy inside?

TODAY’S FOCUS
If you are in a backslidden condition, repent and return to the Lord. If not, ask God to keep you on His straight path.
