The Christ's Placard
"And when I came to you, brethren, I did not come with superiority of speech or of wisdom, proclaiming to you the testimony of God. For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified."1 Corinthians 2:1-2
Before mass printing was available, important information was often communicated by people carrying placards, which would contain only essential words and information. Today, advertisers still use placard carriers – many of them spinning their signs on street corners and other public places in order to catch our attention.
In our scripture, we see the words that formed the core of every message the Apostle Paul delivered: “Jesus Christ crucified.” You might say these words were his placard. The message of Jesus Christ crucified should also be the placard every believer carries with urgency. For it is at the cross of Jesus that God demonstrates how much He loves us, and how much He wants us to come home to Him. So today, let’s pick up and carry that placard, doing whatever we can to draw attention to its life-changing message – “Jesus Christ crucified!”
