The Grounded Heart

April 25, 2018
For this reason I bow my knees before the Father … that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love… -Ephesians 3:14, 16-17
The grounded heart is so deeply rooted it can’t be pulled out of its relationship to Christ. A friend once gave my wife Jo Beth a great big blooming plant. She placed the huge plastic container bearing the flowers in an even larger pot in our backyard. There it sat for two years. Eventually, someone knocked over the big pot. Jo Beth tried to set the plant back in place, and found that it had sunk its roots through the plastic container, through the large pot in which it sat, and deep into the ground. It seemed immoveable.

Our fallen culture tugs hard on our hearts. It tries to yank us out of our devotion to Christ. As we root ourselves in His Word and loving character, we are so deeply embedded that the strongest pull cannot uproot us.

“For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39)

TODAY’S HEART FOCUS
What is tugging on you right now, trying to pull you away from Christ? Ask God for fresh strength to resist, and to take the roots of your heart deeper into Him.
