The heart’s delight

February 17, 2018
Delight yourself in the LORD; and He will give you the desires of your heart. - PSALM 37:4

Children delight in what they have, teenagers in what they do, and adults in what they are.So, an adult whose primary delight is in possessions or activities has an immature heart. The mature heart does enjoy possessions and pleasant activities, but “delight” is a much deeper word than “enjoy.” The “delightful” is that which is exquisitely delicate, something to be preserved, protected and cherished. You treasure a priceless antique but enjoy a coffee mug.

“Desire” is a preference, something you want but can live without. Trivializers get priorities confused, treasuring what ought to be merely liked and liking what ought to be treasured. If one cherishes relationship with God as life’s greatest treasure, the desires of life come with the package as God wills.

TODAY’S FOCUS
Worship God as the One Who knows what you really want; to conform your desires to His will and work in your life so that He is your greatest delight.
