The hijacked heart

September 03, 2018
For when it came about when Solomon was old, his wives turned his heart away after other gods; and his heart was not wholly devoted to the LORD his God, as the heart of David his father had been. - 1 KINGS 11:4

The captain was weary from the long voyage and drained from trying to restrain a mutinous crew. He dozed off in the wheelhouse, and the rebellious sailors hijacked the ship.

So Solomon as a young man had walked in the best steps of his dad, David. Solomon had honored God by asking from Him wisdom. God had granted Solomon the privilege of building the great Jerusalem Temple. But now Solomon’s energy is waning. Through the years he has brought into his house wives with idolatrous mutiny in their hearts. As Solomon dozes spiritually, they are able to redirect his heart, his spiritual rudder.

There are mutinous influences around you and me that would hijack our hearts, and turn them to gods who are no gods at all. Just as Solomon’s wives had gained entry to his house, some invade ours through media. Stay on the alert throughout life. Don’t come this far in faith, only to have your heart turned away from the true and living God!
