The Lukewarm Heart

February 26, 2018
I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot; I would that you were cold or hot. So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth. Because you say, “I am rich and have become wealthy and have need of nothing” and you do not know that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked. – REV 3:15-17

Jimmy feared disappointment and failure, so he never committed to anything, including love. He audited his university classes for fear of not qualifying for entry. He even “audited” church. He sat and soaked, but never left the pew.

Jimmy was like the man in Jesus’ parable who buried his treasure for fear it would be lost (Matthew 25:22-25). There was no risk in Jimmy’s life. He refused to allow his heart to be passionate about anything but neither would he embrace the coldness of unbelief. He hovered in a stagnant pool of indifference and complacency.

Jimmy was right about a few things: It’s risky to give your heart away and to sacrifice it for causes that lead to crosses. The only problem with Jimmy and all those like him is that they miss life. Don’t be afraid to let your heart get ignited for Christ and His Kingdom.

TODAY’S FOCUS
Praise God the Holy Spirit for His ministry of igniting cold hearts. And ask Him to pour some fresh fuel of revival and renewal on your heart.
