The stone heart
"And I shall give them one heart, and shall put a new spirit within them. And I shall take the heart of stone out of their flesh and give them a heart of flesh…” - EZEKIEL 11:19
Dr. Denton Cooley coined the term “stone heart” to describe an irreversible heart condition following certain open-heart operations. There was no cure for stone heart and it was always fatal.
When Jesus Christ transforms a life, He yanks out the stone heart and replaces it with sensitivity. “Flesh” is often thought of as a negative, but in Ezekiel 11:19 the word means “rosy” and “fresh.”
A man’s prize clock stopped ticking. He changed the weights, face, and hands, but nothing happened. All the while his little boy watched. Finally, the child said, “Daddy, I think the poor clock needs a new inside.” Jesus Christ gives us a bright new face and hands ready for new works, but He does so by giving us a “new inside,” a rosy, fresh heart.
