Four Ways to Deal With Depression

August 19, 2021

God is using your generous support to continue to bless and remind people who He is and what He’s done for them. People like this listener in Hawaii, who writes…

"When, 45 years ago, I wanted to end my misery and life and kill myself, Aku’a (“Sovereign God,” in Hawaiian) had other plans for my life and PROMISED me who He is, but perhaps as significantly who I am. Dr. Young’s teachings are such a blessing and inspiration because I can FEEL His love, devotion, and knowledge of our Lord’s Word.”

The truth is there’s no instant fix for depression, and even years after experiencing their lowest point, believers battling depression need constant reassurance of who they are in Christ. Praise God for the proven truth of His Word, which you help share!

Psalms 42 and 43 describe someone facing depression. And we find in these verses four ways to deal with depression.

Let go.

Be honest with God. Lay it all out there about what is getting you down. Be honest with God about your feelings.

Remember.

Remember the things God has done for you. Remember who you are in Christ. Recall the times you’ve felt close to God.

Talk to yourself.

Don’t listen to yourself. Don’t get stuck in your thoughts. Talk to yourself. Tell yourself who God is, voice what you’re feeling.

Change your choices.

Choose God’s presence. Choose to praise God. Psalm 43:4 says, “Then I will go to the altar of God, to God my exceeding joy; and I will praise You on the lyre, God.”

Thank you again for your generous partnership so that more people can be reminded of who God is and how much He cares for them!
