Get Outfitted for the Christian Adventure
It is hard to believe that I’ve been a follower of Jesus Christ for 73 of my 85 years. And as I look back on my walk with the Lord all those years, I just have to say this: It’s been the grandest adventure of my life!
Yet I know some Christians might say, “That’s great to hear, Dr. Young, but my life as a Christian hasn’t been an adventure at all. In fact, I’m stuck at base camp and can’t seem to figure out how to get going.”
If that’s how you feel… or how someone you know feels… I have good news: The believer who truly desires spiritual maturity stands on the edge of an exciting adventure! And I want to show you how to get outfitted for that journey today.
Psalm 119:105 says,
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”Psalms 119:105
Whether we’ve been Christians for days or decades, every step of our adventure with the Lord must be illuminated by the reading, studying, and meditating upon the light of God’s Word, the Bible. This gives you the three things you need to be outfitted for the Christian walk.
First, reading and studying the Bible helps you grow.
There is a banquet table filled with all the foods necessary for spiritual development awaiting those who eat regularly from His feast.
Second, reading and studying the Bible helps you defeat sin.
As you read and study the Bible, God brings His Word to your mind when you engage in actions and attitudes which are displeasing to Him. This helps you avoid the path of sin that can wreck your adventure.
Third, reading and studying the Bible makes you blessed.
Psalm 1 teaches that the person who delights in the law of the Lord and who meditates on this law day and night is “blessed,” or exceedingly happy.
Reading and studying the Bible is key to being properly outfitted for the Christian adventure. May you know its treasures as you walk in the Word!
