“I shall seek Your face, LORD.”

April 24, 2024

It was decades ago now, but I vividly remember coming home from a trip when my son, Ben, was about 3 or 4 years old. I came in and gave him a small gift and talked for a minute or two before sitting down in my chair to read the newspaper.

Ben was still down on the floor playing, talking to me, when all of a sudden, he just crashed through that paper in my lap, got right up close and pulled my face round to his.

His words remain with me to this day: “Daddy, I want you to look at me when I talk to you.”

It’s the very same sentiment that David cried out to his Heavenly Father in Psalm 27:7–9…

Hear, Lord, when I cry with my voice,
And be gracious to me and answer me.
When You said, “Seek My face,”
my heart said to You,
“I shall seek Your face, Lord.”
Do not hide Your face from me.

The Psalms are packed full of invitations like this to draw near to God. And no matter how distant you may feel right now, He will answer!

In my distress I called upon the Lord,
And cried to my God for help;
He heard my voice.
(Psalm 18:6)

I pray these promises from the Psalms lift your spirit today and give you the confidence to pray with boldness and honesty, knowing that He’s ready and waiting to hear you!

And be encouraged! Through your prayers and partnership, you’re helping other people draw near to God too, as together we share the proven truth of His Word all around the world on the radio, on TV, and online.

May “God be gracious to [you] and bless [you], and cause His face to shine upon [you]” (Psalm 67:1).
