Let God’s Word Light Up Your Life!
For so many of us, the ups and downs of this past year made life more unpredictable than ever – and even now, as we head into 2021, it’s easy to feel that the world is out of control.
Yet nothing could be further from the truth. Because despite how dark things may seem at times, our God is seated on His throne and He rules and reigns over all things.
We see this clearly in the grand story of Scripture. From Genesis to Revelation, God has knit together a narrative of salvation history with Jesus shining brightly right at the center.
Now, I’ve heard people say they find the Bible hard to read. “I’d like to read it, but I just don’t have that much time,” they often add. To that, I say there’s nothing more critical to Christian growth than spending time in God’s Word!
It’s also worth noting that even though the Bible is a historical account, it doesn’t necessarily flow in chronological order. The Bible was written by 40 different authors over 1,500 years. Events are described in multiple books from multiple perspectives.
That’s why when we read it, it’s important to look at the passage in context with an eye to the history and culture of the time. When there are parallel passages in other books of the Bible, we should read them too.
This isn’t some “a chapter a day keeps the devil away” reading plan. It’s being intentional to dig into the background of the books of the Bible as you read them to really understand what’s going on – and how it applies to you today.
One way I’ve found particularly helpful to reading the Bible in context is by using the One Year Chronological Bible – which I’d love to put in your hands.
Let me encourage you that no matter what this year holds, God is in control. And as you dig into His Word, you’ll be encouraged and strengthened by the unchanging truth from Psalms.
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”Psalms 119:105
May the proven truth of Scripture light the path of your life no matter what circumstances come your way!
