3 Tips for Diving Deeper Into God’s Word

January 03, 2023

God offers you His Word as a gift to fill your life with His power and truth. Here are 3 tips to help you dive deeper into Scripture this year:

Find a quiet place and time

Jesus himself made a habit of this. Mark 1:35 says,

“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.”
Mark 1:35

No, Jesus didn’t carry with Him the NIV Study Bible, but we can infer that this was His time to get quiet before the Father and meditate on His truth. You don’t have to get up at the crack of dawn and hike to the wilderness – you just need a place and time where the distractions of life fall away, so it’s just you and your Father.

Start small

Getting into God’s Word doesn’t need to feel overwhelming. Start with one verse or one section and then stop. Reread that smaller passage. Pray over it. Meditate on one phrase. Even the smallest portions pack a punch.

Ask God for help

Too often we skip this part! But Scripture says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you” (James 1:5). You want to make the most of your time in God’s Word… pray that exact request. God will open your mind to understand and your heart to receive.
