What Is the Bible?

November 06, 2021

The Bible is amazing. Thirty-nine books in the Old Testament… 27 in the New Testament. It’s filled with narrative, poetry, songs, and prophecy.

The Bible was written by over 40 authors over 1,600 years. It is written in Hebrew, Greek, and a little bit of Aramaic. It was written by scholars and by fishermen. It was written by prophets and priests, by tax collectors and common workmen.

It’s unmatched in its place in world history.

Now what would you expect to find in a book written over 1,600 years by more than 40 authors from all over the world and all walks of life?

Contradictions and inconsistencies.

But what do we find instead? We find a book that has one master theme, Genesis to Revelation – Jesus Christ. You can find Him with some biblical insight on virtually every page of this remarkable book!

See, on one level the Bible is a library of various books. But it’s more than that… it’s a landscape, a 360-degree panorama that shows God working throughout human history to accomplish His work of salvation. And when you read it, you move from just studying it to exploring it.

And slowly but surely, you see that God is saying something to you… in every story and every situation and in every person, God begins to speak to you personally.

First John 1:7 tells us,

“But if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.”
1 John 1:7

The Bible is a light that helps us see way down the road of life. And if you want light to be in your life, then the Scriptures give you light to see clearly every time you come to a decision-making moment.

My prayer is that as you immerse yourself in God’s Word, you will become a student of its truth that’s been proven time and time again. And through that, you will have light to navigate every uncertain situation that comes along in your life.
